Formed in the Snowdonia village of Betws y Coed in 1997, Melys are singer Andrea Parker, guitarist Paul Adams and drummer Gary Husband. After early releases on legendary Welsh label ‘Ankst’ the band quickly gained a strong following which led to them signing a 5 album deal with Pinnacle records. The band went on to release 4 studio albums, (Rumours and curses, Kamikaze, Casting Pearls and Life’s too short) and a European ‘best of’ album called ‘Suikerspin’.
Melys gained further critical acclaim by winning the public vote topping Radio One, John Peel’s festive 50 in 2001 with their single Chinese Whispers.
Having a close relationship with the late iconic DJ John Peel, they recorded 11 Radio One sessions and outside broadcasts for his show and later for Huw Stephens, the most by a Welsh band.
Now joined by bassist Stuart Hastings and guitarist Aaron Watkinson, the band are back playing live completing two successful UK tours with indie legends ‘The Wedding Present’ and making a well-received appearance at the 2020 Rockaway Beach festival.
The band have just released a live mini album and are finishing touches to their new album, the band’s first recorded material for over 10 years, which is scheduled for release in early summer together with a UK tour.
